"Most organized religions, sadly, devote much of their time and energy to defending dogma or destroying dissonance. When kneeling before a fragile little boy like Sam, those kind of petty and immature religious practices dissolve into a sea of insignificance. Love is all that matters. And love compels us to reach out for Sam and Esther."
I am ashamed beyond words as I am learning a lesson about life from an 8-year-old, starving little girl. This is the result of our hipocrisy. What was I doing while Sam and Esther lay in the dirt? Probably wasting time defending dogma...
The more evidence I see of the crying shame in our world, the more I feel compelled to move out of my comfort zone and do whatever is in my power to make a change. I have devoted half of my life to substantiating my faith. Now I feel it is time to actually live out what I believe.
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. - James 2:14-17
