"If You Remain Silent" is the title of Week 4 of the Esther study. Day 3 has a few really good quotes by Beth Moore. One of them is on p.92 and refers to Esther's response to Mordecai's request to help the Jews. Her answer shows her detachment from what is really happening out in the "real world" as she plays the cushy life of queen in the royal palace. We all can do the same if we are not careful...
"We tend to detach from sight and situations that make us fell badly about ourselves - especially when we feel powerless. If we think we can't do anything about a bad situation, we'd just as soon not have to see it. Here's the trap, however: If we distance ourselves long enough from real needs, we replace them with those that aren't. Pretense becomes the new real and suddenly a delay of our new couch becomes a terrible upset. We are wise to force ourselves to keep differentiating between simple inconveniences and authentic tribulations. The more detached and self-absorbed we become, the more we mistake annoyances for agonies. It happens to all of us."
